Things You Need To Know
Eligibility Requirements - To be eligible for TPG Naked DSL, you need to meet the following requirements:
- You must reside in an area covered by TPG's ADSL2+ Enabled Exchanges.
- Your phone line is active (i.e. you have a dial tone & an active phone number) and owned by Telstra's Network
- The TPG exchange you connect to has available capacity
- There is no complex product on the phone line (e.g. fax duet, rotary line, line hunt, PABX or ISDN).
- The cabling infrastructure between the exchange and your premises is compatible with Naked DSL service
- (incompatible infrastructure inc. RIM, PGS, Sub-Exchange)
- Provision of TPG Naked ADSL2+ is subject to Service Qualification check upon registration to ensure the nominated line is Naked ADSL2+ compatible. Please note passing line check does not guarantee that you can get Naked ADSL2+. There is a small chance that if you cancel your existing ADSL2+ service that you may not get TPG Naked ADSL2+. If the line check is successful you will be required to cancel your existing ADSL2+ connection &/or remove any complex products within 3 working days (if applicable). After 3 working days we assume that all complex products and/or ADSL2+ codes have been removed & TPG will submit your order to Telstra. Order rejection fees may apply if you do not remove the complex products/ADSL2+ code within 3 working days.
- If you have ADSL connection with another provider, you do not need to cancel the existing ADSL service.
- Your Naked ADSL2+ application takes approximately 5-11 working days for connection to occur
- Once Naked ADSL2+ is installed, your phone line will be disconnected and you will be unable to use any services that require a phone line to operate.
Monthly Access Charge
Monthly access charge is the monthly subscription fee for your plan. This charge does not include other additional charges. Monthly access charge is paid by Credit Card (CC) or Direct Debit (DD) monthly in advance.
ADSL2+ Speeds
Optimal ADSL2+ speeds require compatible ADSL2+ modem and filters. Around 70% of Soul ADSL2+ customers can achieve speeds greater than 10Mbps. Actual speeds will vary due to many factors including distance from the local telephone exchange, the quality of the customer's copper phone line, cabling and equipment.
Download Quota
Download Quota means the amount of data you can download during a one billing month. Unused allowance is forfeited.
Shaping
Once the specified monthly download quota is reached, download speed is reduced to the "shaping" speed until the end of the billing month. Shaping allows you to download even when you go over monthly download quota and protect you from unexpected excess download charges.

FAQ - Common Questions about TPG Naked ADSL2+ (naked dsl)
What is Naked ADSL2+ (naked dsl)?
Naked ADSL2+ (also known as ULL) is a type of ADSL2+ broadband Internet connection that doesn't require a landline phone service. This means no more costly monthly line rental for the landline phone service you hardly ever use.
Can I get TPG Naked DSL?
TPG Naked DSL service is available in the areas covered by TPG ADSL2+ network. This means you need to reside in an area covered by TPG's ADSL2+ enabled exchanges.
So how do you apply for TPG Naked DSL?
You will need to make sure that you have an active phone line connected at your house on the Telstra network. That is, you must have an active phone number which you can give us to do a preliminary check to see if Naked DSL is available in your exchange.
In case you don't have a phone line connected then you will still need to get your phone line connected with Telstra. Only if you provide TPG with an active phone line can TPG start processing your Naked DSL application. When you join TPG's Naked DSL service, your phone line is transferred from Telstra's network to TPG's ADSL2+ infrastructure. The cancellation of the phone service on the line will be done automatically so there is no need for you to contact Telstra. Once Naked DSL has been installed, the phone line becomes a data only line. You will loose dial tone and the phone number will be disconnected automatically. The phone number will be eventually released back to your phone provider and assigned to another customer.
Why don't I need a phone line for broadband?
You don't actually need a phone line for broadband. What you need is the copper line connected between Telstra exchange to your premise, which you have used to make phone calls and access the Internet. When you sign up to a TPG Naked ADSL2+ plan, Telstra will physically transfer your phone line into an ULL line and connects this to TPG's DSLAM. This enables TPG to provide high speed ADSL2+ broadband service via our own network infrastructure without telephony component.
How does TPG Naked ADSL2+ work?
Naked ADSL2+ works the same way broadband does, so all you need to do is configure your broadband modem if you are new to ADSL2+. You can plug your modem into the same phone socket on the wall. When you join TPG's Naked ADSL2+ service, your phone line is transferred from Telstra's network to TPG's ADSL2+ infrastructure. The cancellation of the phone service on the line will be automatic so there is not need for you to contact Telstra.
Can I keep my existing phone number?
No. Once Naked ADSL2+ has been installed, the phone line becomes a data only line. You will loose dial tone and the phone number will be disconnected automatically. The phone number will be eventually released back to your phone provider and assigned to another customer. If customers have any contractual obligations with their phone provider, customers must ring them and close the account. In case you would like to keep your existing phone number then we suggest that you look at our ADSL2+ plans.
Will Naked ADSL2+ affect services running on the phone line?
Yes. Once your phone line is disconnected, customers are not able to use any service that requires a dial tone to operate. Examples of such services include: phones, fax machines, eftpos terminals, PABX, Back to base alarm systems, dial up internet, enhanced services on digital Pay TV such as purchasing movies, voting etc.
How do I make phone calls?
Once your phone line is disconnected, you will not have dial tone on the phone line. You can make phone calls using a mobile phone, another landline or using VoIP
How long does it take to get connected to TPG Naked ADSL2+?
From the date we send you email confirmation it can take approximately 5-11 working days for the connection to occur, depending on customer's location and customer's line.
Do I need to contact my existing phone service provider to cancel my phone line before applying for Naked ADSL2+?
No. Your existing active phone line is needed for applying for Naked ADSL2+. Once the phone number has passed a series of compatibility checks, TPG will take care of the rest.
Do I need to be at home on the date that Naked ADSL2+ is connected?
No.
I currently have broadband with another provider, how long will I be without broadband for?
If you have indicated that you have an ADSL2+ connection with another provider on the nominated phone line at the time of registration, after successful line check we will send you a confirmation via email advising you to cancel existing ADSL2+ service (by removing ADSL2+ code) within 3 working days before we submit service activation request to Telstra. You could be without broadband for approximately 6-11 working days until TPG Naked ADSL2+ is connected.
If you have ADSL connection with another provider, you do not need to cancel the existing ADSL service. This means you can use current ADSL service up until the switch-over occurs. Naked ADSL2+ will be connected within 5 - 8 working days from the date you receive confirmation email from TPG. Once Naked ADSL2+ is connected, you will get ADSL2+ speeds of up to 20Mbps. Please note you need ADSL2+ compatible modem to achieve optimal ADSL2+ speeds.
